The esoteric meaning of the KEY is very old and broad. This could be a key of Life and Door, which may both unlock and lock not just the door but also open and close the stages of human lives. A symbolic unlocking and locking of a heart signifies love and luck wishing, for instance, when completing the old year cycle and starting a new one.
A key was the most important talisman in Ancient Greek and Rome. The key of the underworld deity Hecate signified the connection between the live and the dead. Three keys, a common Japanese talisman, is a symbol of health, wealth and love.
